Jesus Christ of Latter – Day church sued by a woman for reporting Husband confession to the State Authorities

Jesus Christ of Latter- Day Saints Church is been sued by a woman, Kristine Johnson for reporting husband who is currently in prison for sexually abusing a child after his confession session in church

Kristine Johnson said her husband,Timothy Johnson confessed his sexual abuse to the priest,the confession was later passed along to the State authorities

The lawsuit was filled in Marion county circuit last week and the plaintiff is demanding $9.6m for emotional distress,loss of income and her family lossing her husband’s companionship

The lawsuit also argues that the church went against it’s policy that consider confession confidential also seeks for additional $ 40.000m for his criminal defense

“In response to that, plaintiff Kristine Johnson and Timothy Johnson followed the rules and scriptures of the church, which … requires and admonish church members to ‘confess their sins unto the brethren before the Lord,'” the lawsuit says.

When the plaintiff, Kristine Johnson found out that her husband had committed an inappropriate conduct by sexually abusiing a teenage girl

The 47 years old Timothy Johnson was arrested in 2017 and is serving 15 years in prisonment in Pendleton,Oregon for abusing a teenage girl

The church says they considers protecting the victims which is their top priority and that they have a 24/7 help line to report an abuse

“The church teaches that leaders and members should fulfill all legal obligations to report abuse to civil authorities,” church spokesman Eric Hawkins said in a statement.
